My journey to authorship began in prison. While some men chose to escape through drugs and deviant behavior—a path surely promoted by prison officials—I chose internal development, militant thinking, and the pen.

During my last few years of incarceration, I was among the men who helped start a creative writing class, enabling us all to become better writers and foster a sense of community.

Writing became my refuge and a powerful tool.
